The hoariness of its petals makes the fleur-de-lis a symbol of purity and innocence. In the
catholic tradition, starting from the end of the Middle Ages, it was associated to the Virgin Mary and to the famous event of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. The fleur-de lis was also used to represent saints like Sant’Antonio da Padova.
