The stork in the act of killing a snake evokes the figure of Christ who annihilates evil. In the Nordic countries its annual return during the spring corresponds to the Easter period, during the feast of the Resurrection. The stork symbolically can indicate concern for common good and filial love. Ripa inserts this bird in the representation of “Disprezzo et distruttione de i piaceri et cattivi affetti”. In the “Fisiologo” it is said that in the same way as the male and the female of the stork never leave their nest unattended, so man should not let one morning and one evening go without a prayer.
